There is whole lot of controversy and misconception over the difference between made to measure suits and bespoke suits. The suits which are stitched on made to measure relate to the process where predesigned patterns are used, which are altered to fit the specific measurement of the clients. These garments fit much better than those which are ready to wear, which are mostly bought by Americans. The made to measure clothing can be hand sewn or stitched on the machines. The quality of the fabric used may not be of high quality as one would expect from the bespoke suits, which are hand sewn by master tailors and require various types of fittings before being assembled and given final stitches to tailor the suit.

Bespoke suits are designed and stitched by experienced bespoke tailors, which involve great deal of workmanship and hard labor which ultimately causes for the suits to be more expensive than made to measure suits. The reason for the suits to be marketed at high price is due to the intensive labor and time which the bespoke tailors put in the making of a custom tailored bespoke suit. The patterns and cuts are made after taking the exact body measurement of the clients.

The bespoke tailors take the preliminary measurement to draw up the design and outline the cuts. The bespoke tailors are masters of creating hand sewn suits, and take note that every detail of stitches made is perfect. The craftsmanship involved in creating bespoke suits takes years of learning skill. The made to measure suits on the other hand are pre-tailored and require just some alterations which may not qualify the standard with that of bespoke suits. These suits fail to match the quality of bespoke suits in workmanship and quality.

Made to measure suits may look similar to a Bespoke suit from distance, but on close inspection of the fine details and craftsmanship, the bespoke suits resemble high quality both in material of the fabric used and the craftsmanship of the bespoke tailors. The bespoke suits will be a treasure for life time, while the made to measure suits will not last so long. There is considerable price difference between the custom made bespoke suit and a made to measure suit.
